Our Mission

At Nisaba, our mission is to empower families and individuals to feel more confident about their menstrual and reproductive health needs through community-driven projects. Without stigma, without shame.

We want to create opportunity and ease of daily living for migrants experiencing destitution or little to no recourse to public funds (NRPF). Whether it's a travel cost to the GP or Home Office, new school shoes or uniform, putting dinner on the tableβ€”everything adds up.

We want to eradicate the predicament of not having adequate means to manage a period.

HOW WE FLOW

HOW WE FLOW π’€π’ŠΊπ’‰€

We recognise the implications of colonialism, capitalism,  patriarchy & misogyny at the intersection of migrant & menstrual health.

We aim to work through a decolonial intersectional feminist lens to dismantle harmful practices.

DECOLONISED FRAMEWORK

A humanistic approach is at the heart of our work to empathise with people who are forcibly displaced with sensitivity, compassion & critical thinking in mind.

Mutual aid models of support allow for resource sharing by and for the community without conditions.

COMPASSIONATE CARE

We aim to re-humanise the migrant community, the fabric & heart of our society.

By providing access to menstrual care & more,  we continue to challenge period shame that can be a varied experience across cultures.

Our Impact

β€œWe have refugee families and their living standards are bad so they rely on charities.

Nisaba helped them efficiently manage their periods whilst they had the stress of being unwell in hospital.”

β€” NHS Staff Nurse

We’re powered by community and volunteer efforts.

Since its founding in 2023, Nisaba has made community and volunteer-led impact through collaborations that provide period products for up to 800 migrants per month, along with regular access to education and resources.

We have supported grassroots organisations and charities such as Women for Refugee Women, The Refugee Council, Hopscotch Women's Centre, African Rainbow Family, Care 4 Calais, migrant baby banks and distribution centres across the UK.

We have collaborated with Here We Flo and Bloody Good Period to provide vital provisions for an ever-increasing waiting list for menstrual products.

We continue to provide independent workshops for our migrant community with an aim to offer inclusive and accessible resources.

To date, we have carried out & delivered:

14

wellbeing sessions

9,870
